The Ashe Historical Society, working with the Museum of Ashe County History, is happy to announce the launch of a new Youtube channel. This channel will feature videos relating to Ashe County history. Our first series, Voices from History, has just been published. This series takes especially interesting excerpts of interviews with historically significant Ashe County residents, and pairs them with relevant photos from the Historical Society’s archives, in order to create short documentary films. Multiple episodes have been produced, and we hope to release one each week for the next several weeks.
Our first episode includes Gertrude Waddell’s story of the Eller Gang, who robbed her grandfather’s store in the late 1880s. Both Linville and Henry Eller were eventually pursued by law enforcement officials and killed for their involvement with the gang.
